Hide bidding was fairly active today with buyers expressing interest to buy, but at lower than last traded levels. One big packer reported Taiwanese customers were interested in steer material but bid around $2 down. Chinese customers are also actively bidding, despite being the rapidly approaching Lunar New Year holiday. They are also offering several dollars down than last traded levels. Several buyers are cancelling orders because of delayed shipments due to the massive port congestion and tight labor. The most recent count of ships pulling up to or anchored at the Port of Long Beach was 120 vessels. Some of these ships have to wait four and a half weeks before they can begin the unloading process.
