Ukraine – Russia Conflict Casts and Long Shadow

Concurrent with the tragedy unfolding in Europe, commodity markets are especially volatile.  A trader’s dream, but a nightmare for end users and further disrupting supply chains in chaos. Fastmarkets reports on an array of commodities that are experiencing significant upward pricing pressure.  In some cases, commodity markets are weaponized, as is the case with natural gas in Europe today. 

 Natural gas prices in Europe and the UK have skyrocketed this week.  The impacts of constricted supply are drastic on paper, but even more so in Europe, where homes will go unheated in some cases or at great cost in others.  Forecasted high temperatures aren’t expected to be above freezing for much of next week, highlighting the gravity of energy supply constriction.
