Bloodmeal Prices Soar, Volatility Continues

For week ending March 11th, volatility continued to remain prevalent through most of the animal proteins as well as the grain and feeds sectors. Anticipation of the release of the USDA WASDE report on Wednesday limited trade volume on the proteins through mid-week and created heightened unease on grains.

On Wednesday afternoon, the protein market saw significant fluctuations on several items, with ruminant MBM and BM taking a front seat on price adjustments. Multiple regions had price increases, ranging from $15/St to $40/ST. The relative price of ruminant to porcine meat and bonemeal continues to play a part as well as reports of phosphate shortages and continued heightened soybean meal pricing. Illinois ruminant witnessed buyer pushback on the market on Thursday, due to the quick rise in price. Mo. River ruminant meat and bonemeal was up 6.8 percent while ruminant bloodmeal was higher by 18.7 percent from the prior week’s average.
