Hempseed a Boon to Aquaculture?
Hempseed has long been known to contain a robust fatty acid profile, with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids occurring in levels that exceed common fish-derived supplements. This trend fueled considerable exports to S. Korea from Canada.
Exports to S. Korea exceeded 4000 metric tons (mt) in 2016 and fell by 84% in 2017 as Korea pivoted to China for low-cost hempseed requiring less transport than hempseed sourced from North America.
