USDA Export Hide and Wet Blue Sales Firm for Week 22

Hide trading was active this week, particularly for steer selections. Steers and heifers traded within a $0.50 range from yesterday’s levels, depending on the selection. Footwear tanners were active in the market this week with some looking for volume close to steady price levels. Firm export figures released by the USDA suggested that tanners are receiving decent volumes of leather orders. The stable but low leather prices suggests tanners are unable to pay higher price levels than where the current hide market is trading.

Sellers reported that hide weights have begun to lighten up to their typical summer weights.
