Growing Supply of Hides for Gelatin Industry

Growing Supply of Hides for Gelatin Industry

The US hide market was quiet today while sellers prepare their offer lists. Some sellers remarked on incoming inquires on cured hides, particularly low grades. Demand for cured is fair while leather demand is limited, and the gelatin industry remains active. However, a few sellers have commented on dropping gelatin prices due to the oversupply which concerns sellers of low-grade material.
Wet blue hides are piling up in inventories, so sellers continue to sell at historically low price levels in attempt to make space for incoming hides. The price spread between cured and wet blue range $5 to $7 for some sellers.
