State Governments Advance Hemp Product Development

Hemp products are finding novel applications in the field.  The Virginia Department of Military Affairs received a $1000 grant recently from the Keep Virginia Beautiful organization, for a project at the Fort Barefoot shooting range.

John Sadler, integrated solid waste manager for the Virginia National Guard facility says that the funding will support the testing of hemp-plastic targets.  Hemp plastic is a biocomposite that incorporates ingredients like micronized hemp hurd into a plasticized matrix.

Fort Barefoot currently sends significant plastic target waste to the Nottaway landfill, targets used in machine gun and grenade training.
