Levi’s Leverages Hemp Into ESG Efforts

Major clothes manufacturers have been slow to incorporate hemp fiber into their product lines.  A limited supply chain for raw materials is a key obstacle for global operators.  China has been the most prolific exporter of finished hemp textile blends, which smaller specialty brands have incorporated into their designs, contracting Asian garment manufacturers to design and manufacture clothing.

Levi’s is an exception for large multinationals.  The denim juggernaut has been weaving hemp into cotton blends for their Wellthread line for several years.  As a part of their corporate ESG efforts (environmental, social, and corporate governance), Levi’s has embraced new solutions that create rich marketing opportunities for key demographics.
