Hide Demand From Furniture Upholstery Sector Continues to Lag

Market Update

There was good demand for steer hides used by automotive tanners due to increase leather orders by Original Equipment Manufacturers. A US packer shared with the Jacobsen that an automotive tanner in Mexico had increased monthly shipments of hides by 3 times the original agreed upon volume.
Butt branded steers traded $1 higher than yesterday’s levels, but $0.50 higher than where the seller who made the trade had last sold. Tanners are in demand of heavy native steers as well, but no concluded business had been reported today. The packer continued by stating the best bid received was $36 per piece on regular weighted material.
The Hebei province in China continues to be active in the market this week.
Split prices rose 500 RMB from last traded levels, now trading around 3200 – 3400 RMB, according to a US packer.
