UK based Membership required to view content. has received a $330,000 grant from the UK Seafood Innovation Fund (SIF) to aid in their research and development of a hempseed-based feed for aquaculture. The world’s largest salmon producer,Membership required to view content., is providing technical assistance for the effort, both in production and feed formulation.
The hemp will be grown by farmers in Angus and Aberdeenshire. The scope of the SIF-funded effort is a full-scale two month aquafeed assessment. This follows a feasibility study last year to determine whether hempseed could be integrated into Scotland’s farmed salmon industry.
