Cattle Slaughter Levels Continue to Fall

There was sideways trading over the weekend with interest from Chinese and a few Italian tanners. Conversations amongst sellers were that of lower supply and slowing demand. Buyers have frequently discussed the poor economic state in China, but also low leather prices due to minimal demand.
Tanners are curious what will unfold at the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) in Shanghai at the end of the month. Market players are focused on near-term and long-term market direction for the global leather market.

Cattle Slaughter Forecast

Cattle slaughter is forecast by The Jacobsen at 620,00 head this week, up 2.82 percent from last week and down 6.68 percent from last year. Cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 603,000 head, down 1.63 percent from the week prior and down 6.53 percent from last year.
