Dual Crop Headaches

Dual Crop Headaches

Dual crop hemp grown for bast fiber and grain presents challenges to either marketable commodity.  Fiber quality and grain maturity are not aligned in current hemp genetics, requiring compromised management for one or both commodities.  Growers, especially new ones, report great difficulty running a leggy fiber variety through their combine.

Tri-crop systems that also seek to glean cannabinoids in addition to fiber and grain are even less practical.  The risk of exceeding THC limits is increased, and cannabinoid contamination of hempseed grain is also likely.
