UAW and Auto Makers Come to Tentative Agreement to End Strike

There was minimal trading in the hide market today. 
The United Auto Workers (UAW) and the three major automakers in the US have reached a tentative agreement on their labor contracts following six weeks of strike by the UAW. Auto tanners plan to meet this week with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to discuss leather and hide orders for December shipment. On the news of the tentative agreement, auto tanners should have more clarity on auto hide demand in the near-term.

Cattle Slaughter Forecast

Cattle slaughter is forecast by The Jacobsen at 640,000 head this week, up 0.63 percent from last week but down 4.32 percent from last year. Cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 636,000 head, down 0.31 percent from the week prior and down 4.68 percent from last year. Over the next six weeks, slaughter is forecasted at an average of 632,500 head per week, down 2.91 percent from the same time…
