Massive Organic Wheat Crop Has Implications for Soybeans

Prices for organic feed commodities are mixed.  Merchandisers tell Fastmarkets they remain bullish on wheat after a plentiful, high-grading crop reduced the supply of discounted feed wheat.  This has resulted in novel trade flows that give us clues about overall market conditions.

An example of this is Western Canadian buyers sourcing feed wheat from the U.S. East Coast.  Western Canada is a major producer of wheat but buyers in Manitoba have recently sourced organic Hard Red Spring (HRS) wheat from the U.S.  About 95 percent of the HRS production in the U.S. occurs in the Northern Plains, in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana.
