September Biodiesel Imports Largest Since 2017

U.S. biodiesel imports surged to a multi-year high in September and may end the year with the most volume since 2016. That was the year Argentina and Indonesia were cited for aggressive trade practices, anti-dumping and countervailing duties being applied to imports from their countries. Export activity softened for the fourth consecutive month, falling to a six-month low but remained on pace to exceed the record-setting export volume of 2022.

Imports through September reached 369 million gallons, surpassing full-year 2022 imports by more than 55 percent. There were 55 million gallons received during September, 31 percent above August and 182 percent above the 20 million gallons received during September 2022. Additionally, imports were 260 percent above the five-year August average of 15 million gallons.
