Food Prices Decline in Recent CPI; Fed Holds Fast on Interest Rates

Lower prices for food at home are a welcome sign for consumers, especially those who consume higher-priced organic foods. According to the U.S. Labor Department, consumer prices for food at home increased by 1.6 percent in November. The increase in the “food at home” category in the CPI was the lowest for that category since June 2021. The peak in the price of food consumed at home was in August 2022 when it rose 13 percent on an annual basis.
