UCO Premium Falls in Second Half of 2023

UCO Premium Falls in Second Half of 2023

Trading was again fairly quiet today with limited changes reported. Buyers and sellers seem to be well covered for the immediate position, but many are looking at the low prices relative to soybean oil and heating oil and asking, “when is the demand going to pick up?”
Choice white grease did trade in a wider range today with good volume seen between 32 – 34 cts/lb FOB Mo. River and lower out of the Carolinas market as well. Trading was done as low as 31.5 FOB Mo. River in light volume and there were just shy of a million pounds traded between 33.75 – 34 cts/lb today.
There is optimism from the sell side of the market that expanding renewable diesel demand and the lower prices will attract additional fat demand in the short term. Buyers, however, are bidding lower numbers for the nearby market as slower-than-expected run rates at biofuel production facilities and heavy import volumes weigh on the market.
