DCO Production Higher Coming out of Holiday Downtime

The Chicago market was active today with packer grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) trading at 41 cts/lb, renderer BFT at 43 cts/lb and choice white grease (CWG) at 36.5 cts/lb. There were three cars of each product traded at the respective price.

Outside of the Chicago market, trading was fairly quiet, especially on an FOB basis. Yellow grease was lower out of the California market and sources in several markets were calling the market “soft” in reference to price.

The EIA estimated 1.062 million barrels per day (b/d) of ethanol production for the week ending January 5th, in Wednesday’s release of the Petroleum Status Report. Ethanol production was up 13,000 b/d from the prior week’s estimate, but the holiday downtime continues to keep production below the surge in output seen early in December.
