Renewable Fuel RIN Production Reaches New All-Time Monthly High

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.85 billion gallons of renewable fuel consumed during December, a new monthly high for blending. This was 6.5 percent over November and approximately eight percent over a year ago. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation increased 8.6 percent to 2.18 billion RINs, also a new monthly all-time high and 12 percent above December 2022. December domestic renewable fuel production accounted for 91 percent of RIN generation and 93 percent of the fuel consumed.

In the D6 conventional renewable fuel category, ethanol blending increased 2.2 percent to 1.25 billion gallons. This was up from November but still below October’s yearly high of 1.29 billion gallons. December blending was five percent higher year on year. Within the D6 code renewable diesel blending was noticeably absent for a third consecutive month.
