Regular weight Butt Branded Steer (BBS) and Branded Steer (BRS) hides traded, respectively, $0.50/piece to $1/piece lower than last traded levels. Jumbo weight Colorado Branded Steer (CBS) hides traded $2 lower than last traded levels. The sellers had reported the settled trades were mostly from Chinese tanners looking for shipments to arrive after the Lunar New Year (LNY) holiday. Hide tanners in China are expected slow purchasing at the start of next week ahead of the LNY holiday. The official holiday is from February 10th to the 17th.
Other sellers stated that, over yesterday and today, Chinese tanners were actively bidding a few dollars lower to steady with last traded levels. Some of the bids that were steady to current market trading levels were for branded steer selections, such as regular weight Colorado Branded Steer (CBS) hides.
