Automotive Tanners in China Increase Buys

Automotive Tanners in China Increase Buys

Sellers reported moderate activity to start the week with most bids a few dollars lower than current market levels.
Light-weight Heavy Native Steer (HNS) and Branded Steer (BRS) hides traded sideways today. Regular-weight HNS and Butt Branded Steer (BBS) hides traded down $0.50/piece and up $0.50/piece from the last reported sale, respectively. For one seller, the increase for BBS was driven by increased activity from automotive tanners in China. The decrease in the HNS price was due to lacking demand from European automotive tanners.
Other sellers stated automotive tanners in China were bidding, at best, $26/piece for regular-weight BBS material. Tanners in Asia have taken advantage of the inactivity from automotive tanners in Mexico, attempting to push for lower prices for hides.
