Furniture Tanners Pushing for Lower Dairy Cow Hide Prices

Bidding activity was moderate today from tanners in the handbag, footwear and furniture upholstery sectors. Customers were mostly interested in steer hide selections, such as Colorado Branded Steers and Branded Steers.
A few furniture tanners bid on cow hide material, but have lowered their bids about $0.50/piece from last week’s levels on Dairy Cow hides.
Automotive tanners were relatively inactive, but one was reported to have inquired about offers on a few steer selections. Most automotive tanners continue to work through their inventories and still have some delayed hide shipments.
Market players who are planning to attend the APLF in Hong Kong are expected to leave throughout this week and the beginning of the following week which may slow trading activity.
