Slow Furniture Sales and Home Starts at Year-End to Temper Hide Demand

Midweek hide bidding activity was strong for some sellers but unchanged to last week for others. The sellers reporting greater activity stated cow hide demand was strong, and most buyers bid for material at steady to current market levels. These sellers are optimistic that the market for some hide selections may lead to upward price momentum in the coming weeks.

The majority of other sellers shared that bidding activity was fairly consistent with last week. Bid levels were steady on cow hides but about $1/piece lower on steer hides. These sellers said there is firm interest for higher-quality hides from shoe tanners in Korea.
