Hide Demand Firm Ahead of APLF

Several in the US hide market have travelled to, or are preparing to travel to the APLF conference in Hong Kong for the March 19th to 21st show. Many buyers and sellers are expected to take advantage of the travel by having in person meetings at Asian tanneries before or after the scheduled show.
Sellers have reported firm demand for cow hides. Industry players reported buyer interest in processor steer hides, low-end cow hide material and high-end steer hides. Packer offers are expected to be released tonight and tomorrow night which will bring in more bidding activity.

Cattle slaughter is forecast by The Jacobsen at 600,00 head this week, which is up 2.92 percent from last week and down 9.32 percent from last year.
