March monthly averages mixed for animal proteins

** Please note: The Jacobsen will not publish a bulletin on Friday, April 29 in observance of Good Friday. **

Light trade was reported for the end of the shortened holiday week. Values reported by market participants for Thursday March 28 were within the previously set ranges.

Monthly averages for animal proteins were mixed on the month, due to the combination of limited item availability but lower soybean meal. The push-pull of the market led to higher values on meat and bonemeal (MBM) and poultry by-product petfood grade (PBP PFG). Bloodmeal (BM) and feathermeal (FM) prices were down.

Tight inventory levels from active demand and lower slaughter levels were supportive of both ruminant and porcine MBM for the month of March. Ruminant MBM, Mo. River moved 8.48% higher but remained below March 2023 by 40.60%. Porcine MBM, Mo. River was higher by 17.84%, or $59.47 per short (st), from February.
