Hide Shipments Fall Short of Slaughter for 13th Consecutive Week

There was minimal trading and bidding activity today, with only two trades reported. Butt branded steers (BBS) traded $0.25 higher than yesterday’s levels, while heavy branded heifers (HBH) traded $0.375 lower than the prior day.

For the week ending March 28, export sales for the 2024 marketing year decreased 48.6%, from 591,544 to 303,915 and shipments decreased 20.3%, from 523,482 to 417,270. Sales for the 2024 marketing year totaled 7,078,432, mostly all hides. The average year-to-date weekly trends for federally inspected slaughter were 593,080. Total export sales were 544,495, and total export shipments were 513,498.
