EIA expands interregional movement data for renewable diesel and biodiesel

The EIA’s Petroleum Supply Monthly report now includes interregional movement of renewable diesel and biodiesel by rail. The enhanced coverage adds to the existing tanker and barge movement data that is in the monthly report.

The advent of California’s Low Carbon Renewable Fuel Standard (LCFS) and the subsequent additional clean fuel standards enacted in Oregon and Washington have incentivized renewable fuel consumption on the West Coast. Due to these programs, renewable diesel is almost exclusively consumed within these three states.
