Moderate trading and bidding activity for US hides

Moderate volumes of hides were traded on Thursday April 18, along with an increase in bidding activity. However, price levels fell for several hide sections. Hides of regular weight Heavy Native Dairy Steer (HNDS), Butt Branded Steer (BBS), Heavy Native Dairy Cow (NHNDC and SHNDC) and Branded Cow (NBC and SBC) traded down $0.50-1.50/piece below last traded levels.

Buyer demand was widespread from several leather sectors, such as Chinese export footwear tanners, automotive and handbag. The interest was for moderate volumes and sellers conceded with buyers’ desire to pay softer prices.

A few packers tried to sell large volume of BBS hides at discounted prices, but the trades were not reported. Several sellers reported bids for the BBS hides ranged between $26-28/piece.

Several sellers reported little buying and bidding activity from automotive tanners in North America.
