Footwear tanner buys large volume of branded steer hides at steady price

Prices for regular weight branded steer hides were unchanged on Friday April 26 amid increased summertime hide quality.

According to a US packer, an Asian tanner with a focus on tanning for shoe leather production purchased packer, regular weight branded steer hides at $21.50 per piece on April 26, unchanged from previously sales.

The packer said they sold a large volume of the hide selection and that the buyer was interested in purchasing additional material for July delivery, which the packer was unable to sell at this time.

Fastmarkets research team believes the tanner was interested in the hide’s quality rather than just the attractively low prices due to the large volume of the trade at steady prices.
