Hide market quiet amid depressed leather prices

Several sellers said market activity on Tuesday April 30 was limited, but bidding volumes are expected to increase after most hide offer lists are released.

Fastmarkets’ assessed regular weight heavy native steer (HNS) hides at $31 per piece, down by $1 per piece from Monday April 29. The assessment decreased to bring the lightweight selection in line with the regular weight selection after HNS hides were traded at $31 per piece the day prior. Historically, lighter weight hides are slightly less expensive than or of equal value to the heavier weight selection.
