Demand, trading lackluster in US hide market

The US hide market was quiet on Monday July 1 given lackluster demand and slow leather orders.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for lightweight heavy native steer hide was $28 per piece on Monday, down by $1 per piece from the previous report, bringing it in line with the lower price of the regular weight hide selection.

Cattle slaughter forecast
Cattle slaughter was forecast by Fastmarkets’ research team at 550,000 head in the week to July 6, down by 9.69% week on week and by 2.55% year on year.

Cattle slaughter finished the week to Saturday June 29 at an estimated 603,330 head, down by 1.77% week on week and by 6.39% year on year.
