US hide trading slow on weak consumer demand

Trading in the US hide market was slow during the week ending Friday July 26, driven by weak consumer demand for leather-containing goods.

An automotive tanner told Fastmarkets that, after several weeks of not buying material, they plan to discuss new purchases for September shipments after the weekend. The tanner expects to buy similar quantities to recently purchased volumes and does not anticipate a significant change in their purchased volumes until 2025.

Other sellers reported there was little interest from buyers, except for material priced lower than previously traded levels.
