Hide trading slows during seasonal dip

Hide trading was minimal during the week ended Friday August 2 due to the seasonally slow trading period during the late summer months and little interest for hide material from buyers.

Several market participants reported minimal interest for northern dairy cow (NHNDC) and southwestern dairy cow (SHNDC) hides throughout the week, which drove sellers to accept price decreases on August 2. NHNDC hides fell $1 per piece from last reported levels, trading at $12 per piece, and SHNDC hides fell $0.50 per piece from last reported levels, trading at $11 per piece. The major drivers for minimal dairy cow interest are the slow upholstery leather business and the abundance of available supply from competing countries, sources said.
