Hide trading activity was mild on Tuesday August 13 — typical for the start of the week, while sellers organize their offer lists and buyers close carried over business from the week prior.
Butt branded steer hides were reported at $24 per piece for both light- and regular-weight selections, down $1 per piece from the last-reported trades. The seller indicated that the lower priced sales were to move volume.
On August 12, the All-China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) released an email promoting the fair, taking place in early September, with data from the China Leather Industry Association suggesting that leather demand was strong over the year of 2024. The data released indicated growth for the automotive and furniture sectors of the leather industry. That said, the data is contrary to reports received by most Chinese tanners over the course of the year.
