The US hide market was active on Thursday August 15, with many bids heard for several sellers except for a few that had less material to offer during the week of Monday August 12 due to busy trading the week prior.
A big packer sold regular-weight butt branded steer (BBS) hides at $26 per piece, up by $0.50 per piece from the day prior, and reported strong demand for the material from several other buyers in various leather sectors.
Native heifer hides traded at $22 per piece, down by $1 per piece from previously traded prices. The seller noted a freight advantage for delivering the hides.
Heavy Texas steer (HTS) hides traded at $22 per piece, up by $1 per piece from the previously reported price. These hides are in good demand because they are lower quality, and they have traded at an attractively low price point among steer hide selections.
