Weekly cattle slaughter forecast up week on week, down 2.5% year on year

The US hide market remained relatively quiet on Monday August 26. Market sources reported minimal activity and noted that the automotive sector is currently underperforming.

A trader reported a sale of regular-weight butt branded steer hides down $0.25 per piece from the last reported trade, and regular-weight Colorado branded steer hides traded down $0.50 per piece from the last reported trade.

Cattle slaughter forecast
Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts cattle slaughter at 615,000 head in the week to Saturday August 31, up by 1.15% week on week but down by 2.5% year on year.

Cattle slaughter finished the week to Saturday August 24 at an estimated 608,000 head, up by 1% week on week but down by 2.97% year on year.
