Buyers were more willing to pay flat-to-current market prices on Thursday August 29, but the volumes were lower than the week prior due to the upcoming All-China Leather Exhibition (ACLE). Most buyers and sellers entertained bids but held off from buying material, expecting to discuss in person at the start of the week of September 2.
A trader booked butt branded steer hides at $26 per piece, which was flat to their last purchased hides but up by $0.50 per piece from a trade on Wednesday.
Several sources said that shoe tanners were relatively inactive in the US hide market during the week of August 26-29, whereas upholstery tanners were most active.

US export hide sales decreased by 41.71% to 417,630 pieces in the week to August 22 from 716,483 pieces in the week prior, while shipments increased by 18.76% to 568,446 pieces from 478,666 pieces.
