Hide trade in Argentina halts while wildfires burn in country’s central farming region

Argentina
Hide trade in Cordoba — Argentina’s central farming region, which is home to cattle, horses and forests — has been suspended until wildfires burning in the region are under control and operators can assess the situation, according to suppliers.

Officials estimate roughly 40,000 hectares have been burned as of Thursday September 26. Officials speculate the cause of the fire was the drought-like conditions in the area.

Hide prices remained unchanged, but the volume of trades during the week ended September 26 was weak.

Brazil
The price of Brazilian wet blue TR1 hides was $0.55-0.65 per square foot during the week to September 26, several sellers told Fastmarkets.
