Active hide trading for October 8

Hide trading was active on October 8 for steer and heifer hides, with reported trades ranging from down approximately $1 per piece to up about $2 per piece from prior day price levels. Market participants said the price fluctuations were dependent on the seller and the volume purchased.

A US packer reported regular weight heavy native steer (HNS) hides at $28.50 per piece, up $0.50 per piece from trades reported on Monday October 7. Additionally, a trader reported HNS hides at $27.75 per piece.

Regular weight butt branded steer and Colorado branded steer hides traded at $26 per piece and $20 per piece respectively, down $0.50 per piece and up $2 per piece from last reported levels.

Heavy banded heifer hides were reported down $1 per piece from last reported levels to $17 per piece. The trader noted they had a moderate availability of the hides to sell.
