Hide buyers, sellers remain in standstill over cow hide prices

Hide buyers and sellers remained in a standstill over several cow and dairy steer prices on Friday November 8, with sellers seeking price increases and buyers firmly looking to receive lower-to-steady prices compared with last-traded levels. Most sellers accepted flat prices for steer hides after negotiations did not progress.

Several sellers told Fastmarkets that their positions supported price increases due to tight cow slaughter figures and continuous demand for material intended for furniture upholstery. Buyers were resistant to price increases by either passing on the offers or refusing to give bids above flat levels. Several sellers said that they will continue to hold firm into the weekend (November 9-10).
