The US hide market wrapped up the week ended Friday November 15 with several sellers trading material at prices that were mostly flat, with traders and processors seemingly busier than packers, in terms of bidding and trading.
Several sellers told Fastmarkets that selling material at unchanged prices was relatively seamless, but increases were difficult to achieve.
A trader said that there was strong demand for jumbo-weighted butt branded steer hides in the two weeks o November 15. The trader also said that they received decent volume of trades from automotive tanners in Mexico.
However, an automotive tanner in Mexico told Fastmarkets that their leather orders were minimal compared with the same season in 2023, and they plan to stay out of the buying market for the next few weeks.
