Latest Farm Bill draft redefines hemp

The multi-billion-dollar market for intoxicating hemp cannabinoids is approaching a pivotal moment.  Even as states work to eliminate or regulate intoxicating hemp products, access to high THC cannabis has never been easier for people of all ages.

Federal legislation has been the key strategy for lawmakers to address the burgeoning market for unregulated hemp products, but standalone legislation has yet to advance.  The Farm Bill is the natural arena in which to address perceived oversights in the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, advanced through the 2018 Farm Bill.

THC standards have been a problem for the industry since day one.  A lack of clarity around analytical testing created wide disparities between states insofar as the total THC content of hemp products. The result is a fragmented market that struggles to normalize and gain free access to interstate markets.
