Hide sellers face shipping pressures ahead of Lunar New Year

Hide sellers face shipping pressures ahead of Lunar New Year

On Wednesday December 4, buyer interest for packer heavy native steer (HNS) hides saw mixed outcomes. A notable trade occurred with a large Chinese automotive tanner for a significant volume of regular-weight HNS at $29 per piece.

However, another seller reported to have struggled to find sufficient interest at reasonable price levels, with bids coming in lower at $27.00-27.50 per piece. Traders, particularly those needing to move material this week, may have to accept reduced prices to meet delivery deadlines.

Traders and processors told Fastmarkets that they were under increasing pressure to ship material to Asia promptly to ensure arrival before Lunar New Year port and tannery closures.
