Imports of biodiesel, renewable diesel continued to slow during October

US Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released on Tuesday December 31 showed biodiesel and renewable diesel (RD) import volumes declined during October 2024. Biodiesel imports had fallen during five of the previous six months, while RD imports declined in each of the previous three months.

US biodiesel imports began the year strong and were arriving at a pace 69% above the 2023 pace through April. But volumes have been steadily declining since then and were trailing the 2023 import pace by 10% by October.

October biodiesel imports of 21.2 million gallons were down 16% compared with September, and 50% below the October 2023 import volume of 42.7 million gallons.

Biodiesel imports arrived from only two countries in October, Canada and Germany. This is down from four countries during September. Canada and Germany have supplied 58% of the 366 million gallons received in January through October 2024, according to EIA data.
