Import volumes of hemp under the category “True hemp”: (Cannabis sativa L ), raw or processed but not spun; tow and waste of true hemp (including yarn waste and garnetted stock) has increased since 2018, the year prior to nationwide hemp legalization.

In those early days, raw floral products and extracts were already shaping the markets that we observe today.  Floral products and cannabinoid extracts continue to dominate global markets because of their universal appeal and the insatiable demand. 

These hemp imports run the gamut from raw bast fiber and non-woven hemp fiber products like erosion control textiles, to hemp hurd. Hemp hurd has been imported from Europe for several years now for animal bedding, and more recently for construction…
