Prices for US animal fats and oils hold steady despite declines in vegoils, energy complex

Activity in the US animal fats and oils markets slowed on Thursday January 16, with the industry continuing to process the implications of the updated Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model, now called 45ZCF-GREET, released by the US Department of Energy (DOE) on Wednesday January 15.

allows biofuel producers to calculate feedstock emissions rates for the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit (CFPC), based on lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.

The updated model introduces new pathways for fuels and feedstocks but appears less favorable for soybean oil (SBO) and canola oil.
