US renewable fuel production hits all-time high; biomass-based diesel output surges to capture end of BTC

The $1-per-gallon Blenders Tax Credit (BTC) ended on December 31, 2024. Monthly US renewable fuel production hit an all-time high of 1.96 billion gallons of fuel, generating 2.31 billion renewable identification number (RIN) credits. December biomass-based diesel production was up by 23% compared with November, helping to lead the rally.

December US renewable fuel consumption was up by 11% from November, pushing total 2024 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) production to 21.64 billion gallons, according to EPA Mandated Transaction System (EMTS) data released on Friday January 17. This exceeded the 2024 total RFS mandate of 21.54 billion gallons.
