US cattle slaughter forecast up week on week, down year on year

The US hide market showed minimal activity on Tuesday January 21, with market participants reporting trades for butt branded steer (BBS) and Colorado branded steers (CBS) both down by $0.25 per piece.

Fastmarkets’ research team has forecast cattle slaughter at 610,000 head for the week to January 25, up by 1.16% from the prior week but down by 0.78% from the year prior.

Over the next six weeks, Fastmarkets’ research team projects cattle slaughter to average 602,500 head per week, down by 1.16% year on year and by 0.08% from the prior six-week average.
