Brazilian beef exports drive hide supply, price gains in US amid tariff uncertainty

Brazil
The price of Brazilian wet blue TR1 hides increased week on week to $0.64-0.70 per square foot CFR during the week to Thursday January 23, a few sellers told Fastmarkets.

Potential new tariffs from President Donald Trump’s administration are not expected to significantly affect Brazilian beef exports to the US, Roberto Perosa, head of the Brazilian beef exporters association (ABIEC), said in an interview on Wednesday January 22.

According to Reuters, low cattle inventories in the US and an existing 26.4% tariff on exports exceeding the annual quota of 65,000 short tons ensured Brazil’s position as a key supplier.

In 2024, Brazil exported $1.3 billion worth of beef to the US, including 230,000 short tons of fresh and processed beef, up by 66% from 2023, with most shipments subject to the hefty tariff.
