Chinese tanneries face renewed pressure on finished leather prices

Chinese tanneries face renewed pressure on finished leather prices

China
There have not been many changes or significant updates in the market in the week to Thursday February 27. According to major buyers, some leading US sellers are pushing to sell more jumbo weight steer hides, a typical trend in the American hide market during and after the winter season.

Meanwhile, all Chinese tanneries have resumed normal production, and the rising price of lime drop split is seen as a positive development for tanneries.

However, the price of low-quality finished leather is beginning to decline, which poses challenges for the industry.

Regarding hide prices, there have been no significant shifts, with major US hide prices fluctuating within a narrow range.

The biggest concern for Chinese tanneries following the Lunar New Year holiday is the renewed pressure on finished leather prices, largely due to an oversupply in both the domestic and global leather markets.
